im an atheist and i like the idea of being an athiest but its kinda hard
by Lotus65 inim an atheist and i like the idea that comes with freedom of though and analytical thinking that follows being atheistic vs having a religion im just kinda in a jam because i need to try and find something to completely lose the thoughts in the back of my head that say what if im wrong and i "suffer" because of it.
i feel that if i can find something to destroy these thoughts i can be alot more comfortable with my views and opinions.
anyone have any thoughts on what i should do.

Big News or rumor!
by Burger Time ina friend just informed me that the c/o in his hall will be instructing the elders that anyone with a child in college will be stripped of privileges in the hall.
i am not sure if this is true this is just what i was told.
it could be that it is only a campaign directed at him as he has some ties to ex-jw's and some how got found out.

This is a bit of a shocker for me.
I know the org has been negative regarding higher education for many years but this is a "rule"!!
I personally know of a few elders and MSs who are currently attending Uni.
They are going to lose more appointed men through this.

The Hope For Our Dying Home-Earth...An Inconvenient Truth

as i walked to the street going to work, the main square of the capitol was filled with small children and their teachers with huge paintings, songs, art work with recycled elements demanding a cleaner plannet.
when the old generation will pass those little ones that will take in charge with all the inviromental education they had they will go for a better world.i'm sure about it, you could see it in their small eyes.

Hmm, aint heard this before. Polar Bears are moving habitat because of melting ice - each year they need to travel further and further away to find food. Also, if we are talking about an area half the size of the planet i.e. - "the northern hemisphere", we need to start talking about the "global" problem, an example would be glaciers that are disappearing all over the place. Analysis was performed by National Geographic ( they don't lie ) regarding this.

To qoute - they have observed an "alarming acceleration in the melting of Glaciers".
Some of the ice had been frozen for 50000 years. Now people can bring up a few hundreed years ago their was a warm century etc etc. As I have said before this is not denied, tempreture goes up and down. But - this particular warming trend is melting ice from tens of thousands of years ago. This time it is different.

It depends what info you read on this. Parts of antartcica have certainly shown a cooling down trend - but it certainly is not all of the South pole. Entire sections have broken off due to ice thinning and then cracking. Hmm, an offical US government document trying to rubbish Global Warming, who would have thought!!!!!!

Oh please show me the scientific evidence for this!!!!! I am sure some will be affected by this but to suggest that it is a major contributing factor to weather monitors giving a warmer reading smacks of desperation.

Some strong opinions coming across on this thread.
In my employment I am deeply involved with Environmental analysis and work alot with environmental scientists.
So lets cut to the chase and deal with established fact -
Is the climate changing? YES.
Has the climate changed before? YES.
Has the recent climate change accellerated since humans started burning fossil fuels? YES.
Based on scientific evidence, is it going to get worse before it gets better? YES.
Did the movie "An inconvenient Truth" have innaccuracies in it? YES.
But was the basic message of "An Inconvenient Truth" correct? YES.
The potential problem is that many people refer to the past and say that climate shifts are a natural occurance - and they are correct - to a point....
The current climate shift is distinctly different from previous ones. Clear cut proof is available from observations in the North and South pole where ice is melting that has been there for 10,000s of years. The average atmospheric tempreture has went up and down for many millenium but current observations show a much higher jump, especially in the polar regions.
So the end is simply this - the climate is changing and we are at the very least a contributing factor and the current climate shift is one of the most significant shifts in many 1000s of years . If we do not curtail the burning of fossil fuel it will get worse.
To say that this subject is "hype" is a nonsense, and is generally reffered to in this way by people who simply do not know anything about the subject or cannot be bothered to check.

I believe in a higher being
by Mickey mouse ini opened another thread with a similar title and thought it was going to be a discussion about belief in god but it wasn't.
so i started my own.. although i'm not sure of much at the moment (since i had my beliefs whipped out from under me like the floor under my feet) i feel fairly certain about one thing.
there is evidence of intelligent design and beauty in the universe and i don't logically think this is accidental.

Being a celtic fan - in certain ways I am gutted the blues are through.
But then again, it is good for scottish football.
I hope they do it in the final - but preferably with a bit more "positive" football!
